# Wallets and identities

Your wallet shows what you own and approves actions that can change Ethereum data or move ETH and Ethscriptions. You can browse floored without one, connect an external wallet, or create an embedded wallet on supported iOS devices.

Chat can use the same wallet address or a separate chat-only identity. A Chat identity never changes who owns your Ethereum assets.

## Compare your options

| Option | Best for | What it unlocks | Where the key is kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guest access | Browsing before you connect | Public content, local creator drafts, and guest Chat when available | No Ethereum wallet key is added to floored |
| External wallet | Using a wallet you already have | Verification, social actions, creation, purchases, listings, and transfers | In your wallet app or wallet provider |
| Embedded wallet | Using a wallet stored in the native iOS app | The same supported wallet actions with device-protected approval | On that iOS device |
| Burner Chat identity | Keeping Chat separate from your Ethereum wallet | Chat only | On the current device for the current app account |

## External wallet

An external wallet connects through **Connect Wallet**. The wallet keeps its private key and shows every signature or transaction request. floored receives the public address and the result of actions you approve, but it does not need the private key.

After connecting, floored may ask you to sign a message to verify that the address is yours. This verification signature does not move assets. Creating, buying, selling, and transferring still require separate transaction approvals.

## Embedded wallet on iOS

On supported iOS devices, select **Create Embedded Wallet** to create a wallet stored on that device. Device authentication protects signing and access to its private key.

Before you authenticate a transaction, floored shows the destination, ETH amount, estimated fee, and recognized action. Advanced details such as the gas limit, nonce, contract function, and raw transaction data are also available for review.

You can export or delete the embedded wallet from its wallet menu. Exporting reveals the private key, which gives complete control of the wallet. Deleting the wallet removes its key from the device and can make its assets inaccessible unless you saved the key safely first.

## Guest access

Select **Continue as guest** when you want to explore without connecting a wallet. You can browse public content, edit pixel art, and save drafts on the current device. Guest access cannot follow, like, comment, create an Ethscription, buy, list, or transfer.

## Chat identities

floored uses XMTP, an encrypted messaging network, for Chat. Check the account label at the top of Chat to see which identity is active.

* **Connected wallet:** Your active Ethereum wallet address is also your Chat identity.
* **Guest wallet:** A separate Chat session for guest use when available.
* **Burner identity:** A chat-only account stored on this device. It does not own your ETH or Ethscriptions.

Selecting **Delete Burner** removes that identity's private key and local Chat data from the current app account. It does not delete Ethereum assets.

## Addresses, ENS names, and profiles

An Ethereum address is the permanent identity behind a floored profile. An ENS name is a readable name that can point to an Ethereum address. floored may show an ENS name, profile name, avatar, followers, and activity, but you should compare the full address before sending ETH or an Ethscription.

See [Wallets](/features/wallets) for connection, export, deletion, and sign-out steps.
