Ethscriptions
An Ethscription is a digital item created by putting its content directly into an Ethereum transaction. It can contain text, an image, a file, or interactive content. The transaction that creates it becomes its permanent record and identifier.
In floored, you can browse Ethscriptions, create your own, group them into collections, comment on them, transfer them, use supported marketplaces to list or buy them, and browse auction activity.
What an Ethscription can contain
floored can create and display several kinds of content:
- Plain text, Markdown, JSON, and HTML
- Images and edited images
- Pixel art saved as PNG
- Other supported files that fit the current size limit
- Optional collection details and item traits
The detail page shows the content type and chooses a suitable viewer for images, video, audio, webpages, JSON, tokens, and text.
How creation works
Ethereum transactions can carry extra data. This transaction data is also called calldata. An Ethscription stores its content there as an encoded data URI.
You do not need to understand or edit the encoded data yourself. In Creator studio, you prepare and preview the content, review its size and estimated network fee, then select Inscribe. Your wallet shows the Ethereum transaction for final approval.
Find the permanent creation record
Every Ethscription uses its creation transaction hash as a permanent ID. floored may shorten the hash on screen, but you can copy the full value or open the transaction in an Ethereum block explorer.
The Ethscription detail page also shows its creation date, current owner, activity, comments, collection details, and any active fixed-price listing. Auction events can appear in Activity, while auction cards are available in Market > Auctions.
Understand ownership and escrow
The creating wallet is the creator. The address that receives the new Ethscription becomes its first owner. A later transfer changes the owner.
When an item is listed or auctioned, a supported marketplace contract may temporarily hold it. This is called escrow. floored shows a fixed-price listing in the item's Market section. For an auction, use the auction event in Activity and the card in Market > Auctions to understand why a contract holds the item.
Estimate the creation cost
Ethereum charges a network fee, called gas, to process a transaction. For an Ethscription, larger content usually costs more because the transaction contains more data.
Creator studio shows the file size and estimated low and market gas costs before you inscribe. Resizing an image or using effective compression can reduce the size and estimated fee. Estimates can change before you submit the transaction.
Follow the confirmation stages
When you create an Ethscription, floored shows each stage separately:
- Preparing the content
- Waiting for your wallet approval
- Waiting for Ethereum to confirm the transaction
- Adding collection information, when you included it
The Ethscription can already exist on Ethereum while floored is still adding or confirming its collection information. Open View or the transaction link before you retry, so you do not create the same item twice.
